Almeria is Andalucia’s most eastern city, and is another great destination for nature lovers. With plenty of things to see and do, both inland and along the coast, hiring a car from AurigaCrown at Almeria airport is the best way to discover the variety of activities this region has to offer.
Only 20mins away from the airport, Almeria city itself is small but perfectly formed! The Cathedral is a popular place to visit, as is the Alcazaba, an Arab fortress that looks over the city and its maze of small narrow streets leading to museums, galleries and many of the local tapas restaurants that offer a real taste of Andalucian cuisine.
Driving down to the coast, to the east of Almeria city is the rugged Cabo de Gata - Nijar natural park. Much of this is desolate coastline is only accessible on foot. Further west are the lively resorts of Mojácar and Roquetas de Mar. These are not as developed as resorts on the other Costas, yet still offer miles of blue flag beaches where you can rest and soak up the sunshine.
The Almeria region is also famous as the home of the only desert in Europe – the Desert of Tabernas. Due to its dry, arid land the Tabernas area has been used time and again as a filming location for numerous different films and tv shows, standing in for the ‘wild west’ of America and the deserts of North Africa; and most famously the main location for shooting numerous ‘Spaghetti Westerns’. As a result there are various ‘Old West’ style towns specifically built during the ‘60s which can still be visited today as theme parks and attractions for film fans.
Book your hire car for collection at Almeria airport and you can be on your way in no time at all! No crowded transfers or expensive taxis, and the convenience of going where you want to, whenever you want to go.
