Every year, thousands of people descend on the town of Bu\u00f1ol, where <strong>100,000kg of tomatoes are deposited in what might be the world\u2019s biggest food fight<\/strong>. The actual aim of the festival is to attempt to climb a ham-topped, greased pole. The copious quantities of tomatoes appear to be just an interesting side attraction giving visitors licence to pelt each other with fruit for an hour\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>La Batalla de Flores, Laredo, Cantabria<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-452 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/batalla-flores-laredo.jpg\" alt=\"La Batalla de Flores, Laredo\" width=\"620\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/batalla-flores-laredo.jpg 620w, https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/batalla-flores-laredo-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Continuing the theme of interesting things to throw, <em>La Batalla de Flores<\/em> is an old annual event where girls from the Northern Spanish town of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laredo,_Cantabria\">Laredo<\/a> ride on fantastically decorated floats through the town, <strong>armed with tennis rackets<\/strong>. Spectators throw small weighted flowers at them as the floats go past whilst they whack them away with the rackets.<\/p>\n<h2>La Raima, La Pobla del Duc, Valencia<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-453 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/la-raima.jpg\" alt=\"La Raima, La Pobla del Duc\" width=\"620\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/la-raima.jpg 620w, https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/la-raima-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Back to Valencia, and more fruit throwing\u2026 Aimed to promote the wine-growing tradition of the village, around 90 tonnes of the local grape, <em>Garnacha Tintorera<\/em>, are dumped in the village centre around lunchtime, and promptly thrown all over the place. <strong>All very simple, and extremely messy.
