Guarded by Santa B\u00e1rbara&#8217;s Castle, <strong>the city enjoys a wonderful weather and a historical richness like no other<\/strong>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Since the ages of phoenicians, romans and muslims, the city has had an interesting and delicious evolution of gastronomical arts based on rice, products of the sea and a wide range of spices and meats. Merely mediterranean, <strong>the food of Alicante is something to enjoy and learn from<\/strong>, because it teaches you how to do much with little and how to create something perfect without intrisic perfection of ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk first of one of the basics in food of Alicante: <strong>&#8220;Alioli&#8221; sauce<\/strong>. This mixture of olive oil and garlic it&#8217;s the base of many typical dishes in Alicante, usually the ones with seafood. This sauce has its origins from the arabians and it&#8217;s a permanent protagonist of gastronomical culture in Italy, France and many other countries of Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-236\" src=\"http:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/naranjas.jpg\" alt=\"Alicante's Oranges\" width=\"620\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/naranjas.jpg 620w, https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/naranjas-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><br \/>\nIn the field of fruits and vegetables, <strong>the orange is without any doubt\u00a0Alicante&#8217;s quintessential<\/strong>. Although harvested in October and throughout winter, this fruit is actually available all year round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The most characteristic dishes from Alicante are made with rice<\/strong>. The star of the show is the world famous <em>paella<\/em>. Paella is a kind of stew, made dry rice, chicken and rabbit, bajoqueta (green beans) and garrof\u00f3n (butter beans).<\/p>\n<p>We can also find\u00a0in Alicante the popular\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Tapas&#8221;<\/strong>, which are little morsels of food.\u00a0<em>Patatas bravas<\/em>, <em>grilled cuttlefish<\/em>, <em>mussels<\/em>, <em>clams<\/em>, <em>anchovies in vinegar<\/em> and <em>cod croquettes<\/em>\u00a0are just a handful of them,\u00a0<strong>the perfect companion\u00a0for\u00a0a cold beer or sangria!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Other traditional dishes are &#8220;<em>Arroz al horno<\/em>&#8221; (oven-baked rice), &#8220;<em>Arroz a banda<\/em>&#8221; (rice with seafood), &#8220;<em>Arroz negro<\/em>&#8221; (rice with squid), &#8220;<em>Arros amb fesols i naps<\/em>&#8220;, a moist\u00a0rice with beans and turnips, and then we have &#8220;<em>Fideu\u00e1<\/em>&#8220;, which it&#8217;s a typical dish from Alicante and other places of Valencia made of noodles and seafood. Seasoned with saffron, garlic and tomatoes, <strong>Fideu\u00e1 it&#8217;s one of those dishes you have to eat if you go to Alicante<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot forget Alicante&#8217;s wines, in fact,\u00a0<strong>Alicante produces high quality grapes and wines of world-wide fame<\/strong>. Some of the types of grapes produced in Alicante are <em>Garnacha<\/em>, <em>Monastrell<\/em>, <em>Tempranillo<\/em>, <em>Bobal<\/em>, <em>Cabernet Sauvignon<\/em>, <em>Merlot<\/em>, <em>Pinot Noir<\/em> and <em>Syrah<\/em>, which are the red varieties. The white varieties are <em>Moscatel de Alejandr\u00eda<\/em>, <em>Planta Fina<\/em>, <em>Merseguera<\/em>, <em>Chardonnay<\/em>, <em>Verdil<\/em>, <em>Sauvignon Blanc<\/em>, <em>Air\u00e9n<\/em> y <em>Macabeo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-238\" src=\"http:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xixona.jpg\" alt=\"Turron de Xixona\" width=\"620\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xixona.jpg 620w, https:\/\/en.aurigacrown.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xixona-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><br \/>\nTalking about desserts we have some traditional Alicante&#8217;s sweets which have a strong Moorish influence, meaning that the use of almonds and honey is very common. Among Alicante&#8217;s most popular desserts are &#8220;<em>almojabanes<\/em>&#8220;, &#8220;<em>rosetones<\/em>&#8220;, &#8220;<em>arrop i tallaetes and arnad\u00ed<\/em>&#8221; (pumpkin, sweet potato and almond candy).
