El Estrecho (The Strait) is an area bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, a place known as the Campo de Gibraltar. The emergence of this vital site between Africa and Europe led to the tragic fact of continental separation, happened perhaps more than a million years ago. There, existed a mountain range that extended from Africa to the modern Portugal, the Mediterranean Sea was a former Valley more than a thousand meters deep. A huge earthquake opened the doors of the Ocean, thus giving rise to the Mediterranean Sea and, in turn, also to the strait.

Practical information

If you are close to La Linea, do not forget to visit the Parroquia de la Inmaculada Concepción, a temple built in the nineteenth century and colonial style. Its altarpiece, dating from the seventeenth century, became a sanctuary from the year 2005. It is an ideal place to tour by car with a good company.
